How to be a great PSHE Education subject leader

Getting Started – 27^th September 2022

This day provides a comprehensive introduction to the role of the subject and to the areas which make up PSHE education.

We will cover

• The legal position and statutory requirements
• Ways to review the needs of your school and local community
• An introduction to high quality teaching and learning
• The requirements for a PSHE education policy
• How to select a scheme of work
• Key things to include in lesson plans
• How to select appropriate resources

Developing the role – 19^th January 2023

Day 2 supports the development of the role and is suitable for those who have attended day 1 or already have experience as a subject leader.

We will cover:-

• PSHE education in other curriculum areas
• Teacher assessment
• Ways to support colleagues with a focus on delivering training
• Ways to monitor & evaluate teaching and learning
• How to prepare for inspection

Experienced leader – 3^rd May 2023

Day 3 is designed for those with more experience in leading PSHE education and looks at how to fully integrate PSHE education as part of a whole school approach.

We will cover:-

• Working with parents and carers including handling tricky issues
• PSHE in other aspects of school life e.g. assemblies
• Self and peer assessment
• Using pupil voice to evaluate PSHE education
• How PSHE education contributes to SMSC and British values

Each course also has a supporting workbook to use during the session and supporting resources.
